Motivation
As university students, we spend a large portion of our time studying using our computers. However, while doing work on our computers, we often face distractions such as:
- Responding to messages
- Doomscrolling on social media
- Dozing off while studying
These distractions results in reduced productivity, as the time set aside for school work is not entirely spent studying. These distractions exacerbate procrastination, worsening students’ academic workload over the course of the semester. As work piles on, there is a snowball effect whereby students are unable to complete their work and have to make the lose-lose decision of spending less effort on some topics, or skipping them altogether, resulting in them eventually receiving subpar results
Aim
To develop an app that monitors students’ study sessions and sends them refocus reminders whenever they are identified to be distracted
User Stories
- 5 hours daily spend doom scrolling on social media, this aids me to better aside dedicated timeblocks for academic work
- Previously, I as a university student spend so much time scrolling on social media I had to cram my project meant to be completed over 2 weeks into 2 days, now using sleepEYEs I can better focus on one task at a time and prevent procrastination
- Having my expression being constantly monitored means I must set away my phone and other devices which helps me to better concentrate on my academic work
- I am able to use the custom timer to set a custom limit on when the pomodoro timer is being used
- The custom breaks provides a unique opportunity to step out of my chair during breaks instead of powering on and continue to study which could lead to burn out.
